Milling & Sizing Equipment
Pharmaceutical Milling from Lab to Production Scale
Frewitt Ltd., founded in 1946 in Granges-Paccot, Switzerland, is a specialist in dry and wet milling processes for the pharmaceutical, fine chemical, and food industries. The company’s origins trace to a patented vibrating and oscillating sieve technology developed in the 1950s — still the foundation of the current OscilloWitt line.
Frewitt’s mill portfolio is organized across three platforms of increasing capability — EasyMill, FlexMill, and PowerMill — each offering interchangeable milling heads (conical, oscillating, hammer, pin, rotating sieve) on a shared drive unit. Beyond milling, Frewitt provides containment, dosing, and handling accessories for complete powder processing solutions. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified; ATEX certified equipment available.
MHS Pharma represents Frewitt across the Northeast United States, supporting pharmaceutical manufacturers and CDMOs with equipment selection for size reduction applications from development through commercial manufacturing.
Why Frewitt
Modular Multi-Head Platform
One drive unit accommodates multiple milling heads — conical sieve, oscillating sieve, hammer, pin mill, and rotating sieve. Switch milling processes without changing the base unit. Three platforms (EasyMill, FlexMill, PowerMill) scale from lab through production with consistent milling principles.
Micronization to Nano Scale
Pin mills (PMC series) achieve D90 down to 8 µm for dry micronization. The NanoWitt wet bead mill reaches D50 to 50 nm. Cryogenic modules (CryoFeeder CF-25) enable milling of heat-sensitive, elastic, or waxy materials at temperatures down to -80 °C.
Containment to OEB 5
Full containment options across the product line: ProFi-OEB high-containment milling system, ProFi-Flex flexible isolators, ProFi-Liner continuous liner discharge, and a mobile rigid isolator with universal fit. Validated OEB 5 configurations for potent compound processing.
Lab-to-Production Scalability
The FlexMill-Lab offers six milling processes in one modular unit. Results transfer directly to production-scale FlexMill and PowerMill systems using the same milling principles and head geometries, reducing scale-up risk.
Applications
Frewitt equipment serves pharmaceutical size reduction across the full process chain:
- Size reduction of granulated and dried pharmaceutical powders
- Dry and wet milling for solid dose formulation development
- Micronization and fine grinding of APIs (D90 to 8 µm)
- Cryogenic milling of heat-sensitive, elastic, or waxy compounds
- High-potency compound milling with full containment (OEB 4–5)
- Inline milling between process steps (post-drying, pre-blending)
