MC DecJet Spiral Jet Mills
Micronization from R&D to Production — DEC Group
Overview

The MC DecJet is DEC’s patented spiral jet mill range for micronizing powders down to sub-micron particle sizes. The range spans from the DecJet 30 — the smallest jet mill on the market, processing batches as small as 0.2 g — to the DecJet 400 for production at up to 400 kg/h.
Powder is fed into a flat cylindrical milling chamber through a venturi. Jets around the perimeter accelerate particles to supersonic speeds in a spiral path. Micronization occurs through particle-on-particle collision — no moving parts, no heat generation, and no contamination from milling media. Finer particles exit from the center through a single collection point.
PSD established at R&D scale predicts exactly what the production mill will deliver.

Key Features
Scalable PSD
Identical particle size distributions from the DecJet 30 through the DecJet 400. R&D PSD transfers directly to production with no re-optimization.
No Heat Generation
The jet milling process is endothermic. Safe for heat-sensitive APIs where mechanical milling would cause degradation.
99.5% Yield
Single collection point and screw-free construction minimize product loss. Critical for expensive APIs or compounds with limited availability.
Containment Integration
All models integrate into containment isolators for high-potency compounds. The DecJet 30 and 50 fit mobile flexible isolator systems.
DecJet 30 — Milligram-Scale R&D
The smallest jet mill on the market (529 × 180 × 260 mm). Operates with just a nitrogen bottle. Processes batches as small as 0.2 g.
ATEX-Compliant Construction
Rated for explosive atmospheres with a 10 bar pressure resistant option. No moving parts in the product path eliminates mechanical ignition sources.
Applications
- Pharmaceutical API micronization
- Inhaled drug products requiring precise PSD control
- High-potency compound micronization under containment
- Early-phase R&D with limited API availability
- Scale-up from milligram R&D to production throughput
- Fine chemicals, cosmetics, and battery materials
