Overview

Frewitt pharmaceutical hammer mill open view

Frewitt’s hammer mills use high-speed rotor impact to reduce particles from 10 mm input down to 30 microns. The high rotor speed delivers rapid size reduction with low energy input and minimal temperature increase, which matters for heat-sensitive APIs and excipients that degrade under friction.

Three tiers cover lab through heavy production. The EasyMill HM-3 and HM-6 are compact production units (700 and 2,000 kg/h respectively) with simple button-and-display controls, GMP/EHEDG compliance, and a mobile stand for repositioning between suites. The FlexMill HW-3 and HW-6 are the same hammer mill heads on the premium FlexMill platform, adding automatic head detection, touchscreen HMI, and 21 CFR Part 11 data integrity. At the top end, the PowerMill MFH-15 handles up to 5,000 kg/h with OEB 5 containment and processes dry, wet, and very hard materials.

All hammer mill heads mount on Frewitt’s shared platform architecture alongside conical sieve, oscillating, and rotary sifter heads. A facility already running Frewitt conical mills can add hammer milling capability by purchasing a head, not a second machine.

Lab-scale development starts on the FlexMill Lab platform, which includes an HM-1 hammer mill head alongside five other milling processes. Process parameters established at lab scale carry forward to the production HW and HM heads using the same milling geometry.

Key Features

Low Heat Generation

High rotor speed delivers rapid milling with minimal energy input and temperature increase. Preserves heat-sensitive APIs and excipients that degrade under prolonged friction in slower mills.

Platform Compatibility

Hammer mill heads mount on the same base unit as conical sieve, oscillating, and rotary sifter heads. Add hammer milling to an existing Frewitt line without a separate machine or footprint.

OEB 5 Containment

The MFH-15 achieves operator exposure below 1 µg/m³ for processing potent compounds. ATEX Zone 0/20 classification available across the range for explosion-hazard environments.

Dry, Wet, and Hard Materials

The MFH-15 handles dry powders, wet products, and very hard materials in the same machine. Unusual versatility for a pharmaceutical hammer mill.

Simple or Advanced Controls

EasyMill HM models use buttons and digital display for straightforward operation. FlexMill HW models add touchscreen HMI with automatic head detection and 21 CFR Part 11 data integrity.

Compact and Mobile

EasyMill HM units weigh 160 to 200 kg on a mobile stand. Reposition between production suites without rigging. The FreLift lifting column option handles height adjustment for integration with upstream and downstream equipment.
