Overview

ChargePoint PharmaSafe split butterfly valve

PharmaSafe is ChargePoint’s split butterfly valve range for the contained transfer of non-sterile API and formulation ingredients, including highly potent APIs. Containment is built into the connection itself: the valve splits into an active half mounted to the process equipment and a passive half on the mobile container, and neither half can open until the two are docked. When they dock, the disc halves lock into a single sealed unit, so only previously sealed surfaces are ever exposed.

The range covers two performance levels, from OEB 4 to OEB 5, using the same core valve design. A precision metal-to-metal disc interface seals without elastomeric disc-to-disc components, removing the seal-failure path that allows powder to migrate onto the disc faces.

Independently validated to ISPE SMEPAC guidelines. Split butterfly valve technology first developed by ChargePoint in 1997.

Two Containment Levels

PharmaSafeDown to 1 µg/m³ (OEB 4). Containment through the split valve alone, with no additional seals, vacuum, or extraction required.
PharmaSafe proDown to 0.1 µg/m³ (OEB 5). Adds a simple, low-volume HEPA extraction system that recovers dust at the valve interface during docking and undocking.

Key Features

Metal-to-Metal Disc Seal

A precision-engineered disc interface seals without elastomeric disc-to-disc components, removing the seal-failure path that lets powder migrate onto the disc faces.

OEB 4 and OEB 5 Containment

Two models cover the range on one valve platform, so the containment level can be matched to the compound without changing the transfer method.

Pressure Rated for Reactor Charging

Standard valves are rated to 6 bar (87 PSI), with an optional 10 bar (145 PSI) build for charging directly into pressurized reactor vessels.

Mechanical Safety Interlocks

The valve cannot open unless the active and passive halves are correctly docked, with optional electro-pneumatic integration for automated lines.

DiscLock for Bulk Transfers

The DiscLock variant (DN200 to DN300) uses patented locking technology for large-volume IBC and big bag filling and dispensing, with optional automated docking.

Contained Cleaning

WIP spray lance, CIP spray heads, and a remote ChargeBottle wash station clean the valve and container without breaking containment.

Applications

  • Highly potent API (HPAPI) handling and dispensing
  • Reactor vessel charging under pressure (6 to 10 bar)
  • IBC and big bag filling and discharge (DiscLock DN200 to DN300)
  • Powder transfer between process vessels
  • Dispensing from isolators and contained sampling
  • Formulation ingredient charging in solid dose manufacturing
